Hands free podcasts in the car. Listen to just your new podcasts

I just love listening to podcasts in my car. I only want to hear the new podcasts and don't want to have to start a new one when one ends.

Solution: Use the "Smart Playlist"
Create a smart playlist for podcasts.
Set podcast to true and playcount =0

It works great because after you listen to a podcast it will fall off the list.

Product review Jawbone(r) Bluetooth headset with Noise Shield JBA03

Today I am reviewing the Jawbone(r) by Aliph. Aliph.com It is a bluetooth headset for mobile phone users.
I have used this headset for a few weeks now and I must say it has remarkable audible features. The sound to the headset is sharp and crisp ( it comes with 4 extra earbuds of different sizes that should adapt to most ears.) During the calls I made, I asked how is the sound quality from my end. Everyone I ask said they thought I was on a land line.. The unit fit on my ear great ( again, it has 4 different sized ear loops) and is fairly light weight. As far as the technology goes, I highly recommend it.

The only drawback is the charging system. It has small flat rubber strip cover ( that I have lost already) that covers the connection contacts. The charging unit has a cup shaped plastic interface that presses in place before charging. Many of the headsets that I have used have had a mini USB connector on one end and a regular USB on the other. This goofy charging setup makes it unique to the Jawbone and you will have yet another cable to keep track of....

I have used it to listen to music streaming from my Verizon Q phone. Music will turn off automatically when I dial out and when I have incomming calls. This is more of a Q phone feature then the Jawbone, however.

The box claims 6 hours of talk time w/ the noise Shield turned on.
Standby time 120 hours.

Product review Sony HWSBTA2W Bluetooth Receiver / Transmitter

I just purchased a Sony bluetooth HWS-BTA2W. It is a Bluetooth® Transmitter & Receiver.
I wanted to listen to music from my itunes on the stereo in my office. I plugged in a bluetooth transmitter (A2DP compatible) that I purchased from Best Buy for $19.00 into my computer. Then I plugged in the BTA2W into my stereo amp. You push the button on the unit to "connect" then hit connect on your computer. DONE!
The sound is great and now I can have all sound go through the speakers. Eg..I also use it for webinars.

Nice product. About $80.00

Astaro Security software

Just a quick note for serious UTM (Unified Threat Management ). Astaro makes great security products but thanks to "security Now" podcast with Steve Gibson, they are giving away a free home user license. This software is totally cool and provides complete security. Very nerdy product however. It takes some savvy to get it going. I will put this on my to do list for an upcoming podcast.

Dryer emergency. Pen ink in the dryer.

My daughter washed her backpack this weekend but overlooked a pen inside the backpack. After removing the backpack from the dryer I came to find a rash of black pen skid marks. Like any good techie I “Goggled” the problem. There were many “solutions” ( pardon the pun) and after trying most of them, including magic eraser, goo gone gel, oops,409,windex, and others, we were still at square 1. I did try a small test with goof off and it worked great but we have a gas dryer and I didn’t want to blow up the house. Goof off is HIGHLY FLAMMABLE. Serendipitously I found “Fabuloso” lavender. It really did the trick.
So that is the tech tip for the day. I think low tech tips count…..

How to make your domain name point to your blogger account

Tech Tips Radio, to start, is going to document the process of setting up to do podcasting. Personally, I am new to podcasting but have been in the tech industry for many years.

To date I have spent only an hour setting up this blog and the process is so easy, I won't bother going over it in detail. The process I will start with is getting my domain name to point here.

I purchased a domain name from Godaddy.com ( TechTipsRadio.com ). The cost was in the ball park of $15.00 for two years. I also received a credit to host there as well. So, I did that.

Next you need to create a cname for your new blog. In my case I want blog.techtipsradio.com. Goto manage my domain in the control panel of godaddy. Select Total DNS Control and MX Records. you will see a screen like this:

Next, click on add cname:

In the "enter an alias name" enter JUST the host name. In my case it is "blog". ( without the quotes---from "blog".techtipsradio.com)

In the "points to host" enter ghs.google.com

At this point you are ready to tell blogger that you have your own Domain name. Click the switch to: then advanced, then enter your your FQDN in my case it is blog.techtipsradio.com

I was immediately able to connect to it through my browser. Times may vary...
