To install a new retail copy of the OS, you may need to purchase and replace the wireless card. (Along w/ the OS!) Dell 1500 a/b/g/n, dell 1390 , dell1400
The external DVD reader REALLY needs to be a "real" external reader. NOT, a ext. USB HD device w/ a internal DVD drive attached. Samsung and I/O magic ( I got one at Target) work.
