Hard to believe that an "iPhone killer" could be nothing like an iPhone..? In fact the Storm, in my opinion, has got to be the biggest phone flop of all time.

I couldn't wait until my renewal date to ditched the Storm. So when the Droid was released, I hopped all over it!! So far so good. It isn't without foibles. The email program locks up once a day. Actually, a number of apps will lock up the phone. I can live w/ its problems, I couldn't live w/ the Storm.

The droid screen is great. Battery life is just OK. Lots of fun apps..many free. The docking station, for 30.00 extra is worthwhile.

Funny thing, I sold the Storm on Craigslist for $150.00 even after I told the guy it was the worst phone I have ever had. ( I told him he should look at the Droid ) I hope he has a better experience w/ the Storm than I did.

For more info goto Verizon at:

http://phones.verizonwireless.com/motorola/droid

Free online virus scanner

Recommended by Leo LaPorte ( The Tech Guy )

Eset

Nice to have a second opinion when it comes to viruses.

Give to Charity and YOU get over $600.00 in MAC software!

Give to Charity and YOU get
over $600.00 in MAC software!

So, what exactly is MacHeist?

It begins with the missions....

MacHeist's missions are an opportunity for our members to live out some of those secret agent fantasies, including mission briefings, simulated web espionage, and a storyline packed with tech-mystery intrigue, while earning free Mac software.

Over 300,000 MacHeist members have experienced the Mac themed, puzzle filled missions, receiving millions of dollars worth of free Mac software so far.

....but it all ends with the MacHeist bundle

The MacHeist bundle was introduced in December 2006 to huge success within the Macintosh community. The software bundle offered 10 of the Mac indie development community's best offerings, and was available at the end of the MacHeist promotion for one week.

The bundle was called the greatest Mac software deal in history, and has never been available since then. Customers snapped up over 16,000 copies, and donated 25% of their purchase to various charities. After over $190,000 was raised by customers by the end of the sale, MacHeist topped it off and $200,000 was raised in total.

But we didn't stop there... in 2007 we held MacHeist II and it became the biggest Mac shareware event ever. Quite possibly the biggest software event ever on any platform.

We had more of everything: more missions, more puzzles, more free Mac software, and more of you... and the community grew to become one of the largest Mac communities on the net!

Then we topped it off with a truly amazing deal... 14 Top Mac apps worth right around $500 for the same low $49 price. How did it do? Well, we sold over 44,000 bundles and $500,000 was raised for charity. Truly amazing!

Now we’re back in full-force with MacHeist 3, and we’re here to bring you the most spectacular Mac software event in history.

For further information, we recommend the MacHeist member created Wiki.

Network Monitoring Tools

DSniff

Intermapper

Webscout and Websense

GFI Network Server Monitoring

Talk to your ITouch! They did all the work. I am just combining posts into one place.

For the most part the Msi Wind Forum is a great place for help. For my tests I used the MSI 432U w/ 160 GB hd, 2 GIG RAM, original wifi card. These were my Steps

1..Load generic.iso Link Press fn11 select you external DVD
2..I then put in my newly purchased Mac OS press enter, then boot the dvd ( my device name was [ef] the default
3.. goto disk utilities:
select 1 Partition
give the partition a name
Mac OSX Leopard (Journaled)
***** Important************ GUID partition table
Apply - Install OS, Skip Disk check, 35 minutes or so
Will error at the end or hang w/ a cursor
4..Reboot w/ generic.iso CD Type "Graphics Mode"="640x480x32" (don't forget the blank)
this will bet you by the "Do you have a MAC loop" and send to to the desktop
5..Install MAC OSX 10.5.6 Combo Update Link
6..From "My Package" you downloaded before mount the Chameleon_DFE_for_harddisk.dmg
7..You will see a black window you should se an icon with something like Extra Contents open it find the Extensions folder and delete ApplePS2Controllet.kext now in my package go to the Sentelic Trackpad folder and extract new ApplePS2Controller.kext and add it to that Extensions folder.
8.. Install the Chameleon by clicking on another icon in that black window something like install
Chameleon DFE.pkg or something similar..., Disconnect your DVD drive
Reboot
there will appear a loader enter -f -v its like -f space -v final result is this: -f -v
press enter

Finish by:

**I had to create a admin account with password before these next steps worked

open terminal in Applications -> Utility and enter:
**I had to create a admin account with password before these next steps worked
sudo su
cd /Extras
chmod -R 755 *
chown -R root:wheel *

Keep terminal running
Now go to yourdiskname/Extra and run MSIWindDrivers.mpkg there is a customize button click it and select JUST Video,System,Audio,Network install it
THEN back in Terminal:

cd /System/Library/Extensions
chmod -R 755 *
chown -R root:wheel *
touch /System/Library/Extensions

REBOOT and you should have everything working except correct resolution ....

now go to my package in Paulmodacos folder and find Kexthelper in utilites open and drag
these 3 kexts to the window (AppleIntelGMA950.kext AppleIntegratedFramebuffer.kext and Clamshelldisplay.kext) install reboot...you should have 1024x600.

DECISION

1) You can keep these graphics settings which means no artifacts and no VGA MIRRORING
2) You Can reinstall MSIWindDrivers.mpkg as I described before (yes with terminal as well)
to gain VGA Mirroring a bit artifacts and stable 1024x600 resolution

Phase 4 Some minor things...

1) U can enable the dead key next to left shift by running kexthelper from my package there select install Kexts and install ApplePS2Keyboard.kext u can find it in my package

2) U can change About this mac processor name from 1.6 Ghz unknown to whatever you want just run OSX86Tools and select About This mac edit...

3) To enable Audio Out Jack install CHUD in my package and install Audieee 4 Wind then u ll be able to switch between speakers and headphones dont forget to set Audieee to run every startup..

4) Installing TRACKPAD drivers for Sentelic Trackpad: (Synaptics ones should see trackpad menu in their settings if not, search the forum its easy to fix)

mac/driver-for-sentelic-touchpad-msi-wind-t7558.html

At the end I had a black bar on the right hand of the screen and did not have hi-res so I downloaded 10.5.6 upgrade pack v2, I then used Kext Helper to load these files AppleIntelGMA950, AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer, and LaptopDisplay ( from the first folder ) and reloaded the GMA950.pkg from the second folder. That did the trick.

More info at:
http://forums.msiwind.net/mac/how-upgraded-starting-from-bios-t6555.html

The only things that I have fix are the audio out and the web cam..

MSI Wind U100 Works well with OSX Great Hackintosh!

I have gone through the process of testing the MSI Wind and its ability to run Mac OS. These programs include ones in your startup folder, Run, RunOnce, and other Registry keys. You can configure Autoruns to show other locations, including Explorer shell extensions, toolbars, browser helper objects, Winlogon notifications, auto-start services, and much more. Autoruns goes way beyond the MSConfig utility bundled with Windows Me and XP.

Autoruns' Hide Signed Microsoft Entries option helps you to zoom in on third-party auto-starting images that have been added to your system and it has support for looking at the auto-starting images configured for other accounts configured on a system. Also included in the download package is a command-line equivalent that can output in CSV format, Autorunsc.

You'll probably be surprised at how many executables are launched automatically!

Screenshot

Usage

See the November 2004 issue of Windows IT Pro Magazine for Mark's article that covers advanced usage of Autoruns . If you have questions or problems, visit the Sysinternals Autoruns Forum.

Simply run Autoruns and it shows you the currently configured auto-start applications as well as the full list of Registry and file system locations available for auto-start configuration. Autostart locations displayed by Autoruns include logon entries, Explorer add-ons, Internet Explorer add-ons including Browser Helper Objects (BHOs), Appinit DLLs, image hijacks, boot execute images, Winlogon notification DLLs, Windows Services and Winsock Layered Service Providers. Switch tabs to view autostarts from different categories.

To view the properties of an executable configured to run automatically, select it and use the Properties menu item or toolbar button. The biggest problem I had with the storm was that the screen was always active. So when you put it in your pocket it would always activate the screen. This certainly reduced the daily battery life. Additionally, I had to put a password on it so that it wouldn't automatically dial while it was in my pocket. This problem was overcome with the use of a Blackberry case; the magnet in the case shuts down the screen. After that the battery life was about two days of normal use.

The software that comes with a Blackberry storm is less than adequate. Media sync is a joke. And the iTunes connector is totally worthless.

I had no problems tethering my storm to my XP notebook. Again, the only problem is with the Blackberry software. If you enable the software on boot up, you'll have a long pause before your computer is ready to go.
A better solution was using Bluetooth to connect to my Mac book Pro.

I have had very few dropped calls in the Minneapolis area. And the data speeds are reasonable.
I spent most of the summer trying out all the phones that Verizon had to offer and either they were toys or they didn't fit my needs. The Blackberry storm covers business and personal needs very well. As with any new device, there are a few annoyances. The inability to flick the screen like an iPhone or Itouch can really be a pain. Voice recognition is not nearly as good as it was with my Q- phone. Hopefully with the next update some of these small annoyances will be addressed. So for now the storm is no iPhone killer.

Great NAS device for $99.00

Lately I have been working with the D-link DNS -- 321. This is a great little NAS device that I first picked up at Micro Center. They were on sale for $99 after $35 rebate. One of the things that was very important to me as I was selecting an NAS device with the ability to link at 1 Gb. This allows for nice streaming of media. I purchased another unit from Amazon and it was again only $99. (I have also found good pricing at newegg.com) With 1 TB drives around $99 you can have a complete fully redundant NAS device for around $300. For more information see the link below:

http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=666

Both of the units I have purchased runs flawlessly and the throughput is very good. Another interesting feature of this NAS device is the built-in support for iTunes and AV enabled media players. I've uploaded movies to this device and played them with both an Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

If you're into making hacks, you can customize this box very easily. See site below:

http://wiki.dns323.info/howto:fun_plug

The unit is currently shipping as firmware 1.0 and there is a new version of the firmware available to download from D-Link and I would recommend doing that immediately.

Convert YouTube and other online video to pc / iPod / psp for free

Convert YouTube and other online video to pc / iPod / psp for free
Http://www.vixy.net

Sent from my iPod

Utility to inventory your network

Spiceworks 1.5

4 1/2 stars by PCmag

Join over 500,000 IT Pros Like You.

Spiceworks IT Desktop is designed for

IT Pros who have admin rights on their network.

Organizations with less than 250 devices on their network.
